COR-TEN
Weathering steel, best-known under the trademark COR-TEN steel and sometimes written without the hyphen as corten steel, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather for several years. The name is short for corrosion resistance and tensile strength.
The pros of Cor-Ten are no need to refinish or decorate and forms a beautiful patina, its strong, rigid and mostly maintenance free.
The cons are: If planned or installed badly staining can occur. Staining can be prevented if the structure can be designed so that water does not drain from the steel onto other materials where stains would be visible. We can show some examples of this to help the design & architectural stage.
BRONZE
Bronze doors are constructed the same way and look truly beautiful. The patina only gets better with time and has a lasting quality which is unmistakably Bronze.
COPPER
The copper doors and handles have a very bright finish which dulls over a few months. If a Verdigry is required then this can be forced to create a stunning patina. The antimicrobial properties of copper became understood in the nineteenth century. The antimicrobial properties of copper are still under active investigation. Molecular mechanisms responsible for the antibacterial action of copper have been a subject of intensive research. Scientists are also actively demonstrating the intrinsic efficacy of copper alloy “touch surfaces” to destroy a wide range of microorganisms.
ACCOYA & WOOD FIBRE CORE
Elyzien’s doors are proud to have an Accoya timber core which is environmentally stable. Accoya timber makes our systems, durable, Stable, well insulated & very secure. We are so confident in its credentials that it carries a 50 year guarantee. These cores are produced with a dark charcoal finish.
CILLS
There are 2 choices with the doors cills. 1: Cor-Ten cill – 2: Reinforced cast stone cill. Both are thermally broken and hard-wearing so it’s purely down to individual choice and aesthetics.
GLASS
For all external applications we only use treble glazing. The only option you can add to the already high specification of this glass is to add bomb and bullet proof outer layer.
Our spec is 6.4/16/4/16/6.4
The 6.4mm outer toughened or bomb proof layer with a 16mm air gap then the 4mm internal layer, another 16mm air gap then the 6.4mm inner laminated layer which adds extra security. This is extremely tough, insulating in both heat and sound. It’s truly the best glazing option, that’s why we only offer the 2 options.
